Scholarship Description: University of OsloThe position is connected to a project with the working title “Design, synthesis and evaluation of new organocatalysts for enantioselective iodolactonizations”, which is a project within organic synthesis related to medicinal chemistry and lipid chemistry. New low molecular organocatalysts will be synthesized and evaluated. Applications of the catalysts in the preparation of medicinally useful compounds, such as oxygenated lipids and natural products, will also be part of the project. Some of the oxygenated lipids are of interest for the development of new drugs, but may also increase the knowledge of biological processes related to the resolution of inflammation. The LIPCHEM research group has collaborations with Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, where some of the prepared compounds will be evaluated in models related to resolution of Inflammation. The PhD fellow will work in close collaboration with one post doctoral research fellow on the same project.

Number of award(s): There is one PhD research fellowship available.

Duration of award(s): The fellowship is for a period of three years funded by the Research Council of Norway (FRINATEK/ FRIPRO). If funding is granted from the School of Pharmacy, the position may be extended one year to totally a four year position.
