The Universities establishment, including TNU, is a development of our Party’s direction. This is shown in Decree of the 8th National Party Congress through building training centers, scientific research and high quality technology transfer in the regions. For over ten years, the consistent policy of our Party and Government is to construct and develop TNU. In fact, TNU have been manifesting its role and its position in higher education system in VN, especially in the Northern midland and mountainous provinces.
With a staff of more than 2400 personnel, including 230 doctors, 2 professors, 65 Associate professors, more than 780 Masters and nearly 200 fellows, TNU not only contributes to training a high quality human resource for nation but also plays an important role in scientific research, technology transfer, serving for training and socio-economic development of the country. TNU shares a teaching staff. This staff participates in teaching in colleges and institutes depending on each unit’s need.
TNU has been training the high quality human resource for nation, especially for the northern midland and mountainous provinces. Each year, TNU enrolls for regular training about 10.000 students in the area of upland, area I and II.
Apart from training, scientific research is also one of the key tasks of TNU. After 15 years of building and developing, science-technology activity has a marked improvement in both quantity and quality. The number of research topics and scientific articles has been constantly increasing over the period.
The continuous rise of research and scientific articles reflects the maturity of standard and research capacity of the scientific staff and the students of the university in the process of development.
Along with the increase of research topics and scientific articles, scientific and technological activities have increasingly tied to training programs and actively served the region's requirements of socio-economic development. The University has combined the Scientific Research with the implementing of Fellows’ the doctoral thesis. TNU also signed the comprehensive cooperation agreement on scientific research and technological transfer with 4 provinces in the Northern midland and mountainous area; carried out hundred of technology transfer programs for most of the Northern midland and mountainous provinces, in which many of them provided practical economic effect, contributing to the local poverty alleviation and socio-economic development.
