On March 13, Thai Nguyen University (TNU) and the People's Committee of Ha Giang province held a ceremony to announce the decision to establish the TNU’s Branch in Ha Giang province on the basis of Ha Giang College of Education.

Attending the ceremony were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Kim Son, Minister of Education and Training (MOET); Leaders of the Office of the Ministry, Department of Organization and Personnel, Department of Planning and Finance, Department of Higher Education.

On the side of Ha Giang province's leaders, there were Mr. Dang Quoc Khanh, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Delegation of the National Assembly; Mr. Thao Hong Son, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Manh Dung, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; members of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee; leaders of departments, branches; People's Committees of districts and cities and representatives of provinces: Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang...

On the side of TNU, there were Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Quang, Member of Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Council of TNU; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Hung, president of TNU; Board of president; leaders of member universities and functional departments of TNU.

Thai Nguyen University is one of three regional universities in Vietnam, established in 1994. Over the past 30 years of development, it has become a multi-disciplinary, multi-field, multi-level university; TNU is the Center for training and scientific research of the Northern Midlands and Mountains region of Vietnam. The establishment of TNU Branch in Ha Giang will contribute to human resource training, scientific and technological development to serve the socio-economic development of Ha Giang province and neighboring provinces such as Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan. This is also a premise for the implementation of regional and international linkages in human resource training in the future. Accordingly, TNU branch in Ha Giang province is located at the (old) Ha Giang College of Education. Regarding human resources, TNU continues to use the teaching staff of Ha Giang Pedagogical College, to develop a plan for fostering and training on professional title standards. Regarding professions and training scale, in phase I from 2022 to 2025, TNU Branch in Ha Giang province will enroll students in a number of majors in the group of majors: Pedagogy, Tourism, and English Pedagogy with the scale from 450 - 500 students of training systems.

Also at the ceremony, TNU announced the decision to appoint Dr. Luc Quang Tan holds the position of Director and Dr. Do Khac Hung holds the position of Deputy Director of TNU branch in Ha Giang province.
