PostDoc Position - Pharmaceutical Research - Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

The Helmholtz-Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS) has an opening for a

Scientist with extensive NMR knowledge

Description of the position: Using the available NMR infrastructure in the department of ‘Microbial Natural Products’ at the HIPS in Saarbruecken (Bruker 700 MHz NMR equipped with Cryoprobe and LC-coupling and a Bruker 500 MHz NMR), your new job as NMR expert includes performing routine and advanced measurements for the structural elucidation of natural products. You are about to join a multidisciplinary team with colleagues  trained in chemistry, pharmacy, biology or biotechnology, contributing your analytical skills to numerous projects. Your expert NMR knowledge enables you to develop advanced methods, and  you  also  provide  advice  to  scientists  working  at  the  institute  regarding  their NMR applications. Furthermore, you actively pursue the de novo structure elucidation of newly discovered, complex natural products.

Requirements: Degree in chemistry or pharmacy with completed  PhD. The successful applicant  has ample experience with NMR-based structure elucidation of small molecules/natural products. Extensive practical skills concerning the operation of NMR technology (both hardware and software) are expected. Furthermore, additional knowledge in small molecule/natural product analytics (e.g. chromatographic separation methods, mass spectrometry) as well as a basic understanding of metabolic pathway biochemistry (natural product biosynthesis) would be beneficial. Fluency in scientific English is essential, German language skills are appreciated but not required.
