TNU – US: WORKSHOP: "GENDER EQUALITY IN NORTHERN ETHNIC MINORITY AREAS: CURRENT SITUATION AND ISSUES" HELD

On February 22, 2019, at TNU - University of Science (TNU-US), the Institute for Family and Gender Studies has collaborated with the University of Science to organize a Scientific Workshop on "Gender Equality in Northern Ethnic Minorities: Current Situations and Issues".

The workshop took place within the framework of the State-level project "Some basic issues on gender equality in ethnic minority areas of Vietnam" under the National Science and Technology Program 2016 – 2020 on urgent issues of ethnic minorities and ethnic policy in Vietnam until 2010.

The workshop aimed to identify the basic issues of gender equality in the ethnic minority groups in the Northern mountainous region in the areas of labor - employment, education - training, and care, health care and gender equality in the family. The workshop also aimed to consult experts and managers on laws and policies, effective implementation of laws and policies on gender equality in ethnic minority areas in the Northern mountainous region.

On the basis of analyzing the socio-economic and cultural context of ethnic minority areas in the northern mountainous areas, which affect the implementation of gender equality as well as gender equality awareness in ethnic minority areas, the workshop pointed out the status of gender equality in the fields of politics, education and training, employment, health care and family life ... In the context of related issues, the workshop emphasized the issue of gender violence, domestic violence and the effectiveness and impact of gender equality policies in ethnic minority areas in recent years.
