MINISTER, CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE FOR ETHNIC AFFAIRS DO VAN CHIEN WORKS WITH THAI NGUYEN UNIVERSITY

On April 28, Mr. Do Van Chien, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs (CEMA) and members of the CEMA delegation visited and worked at the Thai Nguyen University.

At the meeting, delegates listened to the report summarizing the results of the coordinated program between CEMA and TNU for the period 2015-2020. Accordingly, on April 17th, 2015, TNU and CEMA had signed the cooperation program for the period 2015-2020. After 2 years of implementation, the program had brought remarkable results. TNU had applied many policies to support tuition fees and dormitories for ethnic minority students. Yesteryear, in order to create favorable conditions for ethnic minority people in the northern mountainous areas to study, TNU collaborated with People's Committee of Lao Cai to set up the TNU division in Lao Cai province. TNU collaborated with Vietnam Academy for Ethnic Minorities to train and organize the foreign language competency assessment for 884 trainees in Hung Yen province.

For the research and transfer of science and technology, TNU collaborated with CEMA to conduct three research projects at the State level (Research on policies to attract ethnic minority laborers to work in businesses; Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of forest protection and development policies for ethnic minorities; Development of precious medicinal areas in Ha Giang); organized conference related to ethnic work: "Sustainable Development and poverty reduction for ethnic minorities in mountainous areas". In addition, TNU also deployed 20-30 technology transfer programs in localities in the northern mountainous area with a total cost of over 70 billion VND.

Specifically, for the co-ordination program between Committee for Ethnic Affairs and TNU in the coming time, the Minister recommends that the ethnic academy develops a specific plan in close collaboration with TNU to study ethnic policy strategies, university and postgraduate training, and contribute to team building; and to foster knowledge of ethnic work for civil servants in the political system.

On this occasion, Minister and Chairman of the CEMA Do Van Chien and the delegation presented 54 gifts to 54 ethnic minority students (one million VND each) and awarded medal "For the cause of ethnic groups development" for 32 individuals of TNU.
